Antique Cars

Few inventions have captured the heart and soul of the American public as has the automobile.  To satisfy your thirst, the back quarter of the museum is dedicated to automobile – circa early 1900s.

Initially called “horseless carriages”, many of the vehicles on display are from the days when the steering wheel was on the right – a reflection of when a horse-drawn wagon was always driven on the right side because the teamster could always hold the reins with his left hand while pulling on the brake with his strongest arm.  It was not until Henry Ford and the Model T – that the steering wheel found its way to the left side – so as to allow the driver to better gauge oncoming traffic.  The collection includes a number of Model Ts as well.
